An amazing recovery, and a new visitor

A couple days into Mom & Chris's visit, we received word that Katie had finished a second round of treatment for her Guillain Barre Syndrome (for more info on what that is, see here: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/gbs.htm) and was feeling better, and had decided to join us, even though it would only be for 3 days. We were all very excited to see Katie, but worried that the trip might be too much. Although she had regained full movement and mostly full sensation, extended physical activity was very draining for her.

Elena took right to Katie -- she particularly liked snuggling up and falling asleep on her chest. I think these two girls both know a thing or two about sleep . . .

And she's down for the count, again. Well done, Katie!

A different day, but the same nap buddy.

Elena up close.

We were all so happy to see Katie -- it meant a lot to Yuko and I (and Elena) that she was able to make it out, despite still struggling to get better. Thanks sis! We love you and are pulling for you.

Postscript -- Katie is recovering strongly from her Guillain Barre, so much so that she is going ahead as planned with starting medical school at UVA this fall, and even her summer program in family medicine. We're proud of you Katie!
