Hiking trip

One day in January, as the weather was clear and warm, we decided to take a hiking trip in Tilden Park, a big state park in the canyon immediately over the crest of the Berkeley hills from Berkeley. We did a 2.7-mile long hike that first follows a stream through some pretty oak woods, and then ascends steeply up a hill face crowded with eucalyptus trees, and then back along the mostly barren ridge. A hike that long was probably a bit ambitious, but it was a lot of fun to get out from the city and stretch our legs. And Elena was a real trooper during the whole hike.





Here we are, on the wooded part of the trail. Elena was super active and chatty, in a great mood, during this first third or so of the hike.



After we started climbing up the eucalyptus hill, though, Elena got fussy, and cried for a good 20 minutes straight. But she was fussy because she was tired, and once she fell asleep, she slept for the last mile or so of the hike, the whole way back to the trailhead.
